LoTR Card Game: Deck Tech: Lore Support – with Mike Vincent

and now it's time for another diced our review with Mike Vincent hello Michael Vincent here and back today to do the second part which is a death Tech which is actually sort of meant to be paired with the last video that I did which was a Dec tech looking at my mano tactics direct damage deck so when I created that deck I realized that it was terrible requesting and really needed a deck to help support that and so this deck is basically a spirit lower support deck which is meant to be comboed with my direct damage deck but this could really be played with any combat themed deck or probably tactics deck but maybe tactics and leadership but this is meant for questing and to deal with all those tricky things that always tend to come up in the encounter deck so this is not going to be a very good question for combat but this is a nice deck to help you get through the questing deal with locations and deal with some of the other tricks that the encounter deck often like to throw at you so this is not a deck that you're necessarily going to want to play unless it's combo'd with the deck which really has some strong combat elements because that certainly is not the forte of this deck so the three heroes have chosen for this is a owen really a no-brainer in terms of her ability to quest with four willpower and the ability to discard a card for each player really good at questing and getting through those high locations when there's lots of Threatened staging area Glorfindel and easy inclusion certainly one of the best heroes in this game a ridiculously low five starting threat he has three attack three willpower and five hit points and of course when we get into the cards you'll see some other combos that go well with him and Aragorn so Aragorn is perfect in that he can reduce your threat to your starting level so that is really nice as when your threat goes up this is the best way in the game so far that seemed to really drop your threat back down a decent defender with two defense and five hit points he has three attack to well power so just a nice well-rounded hero gives you access to the lore sphere and these three play well together and that even though Aragorn starting thread is a little high Glorfindel z' is low and so really you have a o n who can be your quest ur Glorfindel is good for attack and Aragorn can be good for defense but they're also versatile so let's jump in take a look at some of the cards do keep in mind that of course you can sub in certain cards to de meet meet the demands of which ever encounter you're playing but I find these ones are fairly generic and I've had a lot of success with my direct damage deck in this deck getting through many different encounters of course there's certain specific ones that you really need to build special decks for but I find I can get through most decks including a lot of nightmare scenarios sort of first try with these two decks so I found them to be very effective so let's jump in and take a look all right so let's run through the decklist let's start with allies so first we have three copies of escort from address just a really good question he's relatively cheap at – when he commits to a quest he gets +2 well power so each one of these will commit for willpower to the quest so really nice if there's lots of locations in the staging area or if you really find you're on a turn we need to power through you do have to discard them when after you do that which is unfortunate but just a way to push through and give you a little extra willpower boost we need it we have three copies of the rid of marks finest this is really good for dealing with locations are very useless Ally otherwise but of course you can exhaust and discard this to plays to progress tokens on any location so if you have some pesky locations in the staging area this can be a good way to potentially get rid of it now a very important part of this deck is Gandalf and this is not the copy of Gandalf from the corset but this is the one from The Hobbit expansion now you are going to have to coordinate with your partner if you're playing my other direct damage deck because that also has copies of Gandalf in the corset it works out well that that is the copy of Gandalf that comes in for a turn and we'll end up leaving play after the fact this Gandalf however ideally you want to keep him in play really good stats of course for willpower for attack for defense and for hit points so Gandalf can be played in a very versatile manner and the best part is that he does not exhaust to commit to a quest so you can commit your for willpower you can keep him back to attacker defend and you do have to raise your threat by two if you want to keep them on the on the field however that's perfect with Aragorn who we've included so you can have Gandalf come out yes your threat may get dangerously high but use aragorn's ability to drop it back down again so conceivably you can have Gandalf out for a good portion of the game and he makes a huge difference for both questing and in combat now I've included three copies of the warden of healing this is of course just nice to have some healing ability I find the warden to be one of the best options for healing and of course if you're the other deck will be playing combat so if Barry gand is getting overwhelmed and taking some damage you can use the word of healing to keep your team alive next we have three copies of arwen and Emil just a really nice ally good for questing as she has to well power she has to hit points so she can stick around for a little while and when you exhaust her it gives someone else Sentinel and increases their defense by +1 so I find this combos well with Aragorn who has two defense which is a bit low but if you put this on Aragorn he's gonna end up with three defense so gonna make him a more viable blocker alright so we have two copies of Dori now door is unique but he's great in that he's sort of a sturdy defender if you need him as he has three hit points but his ability comes in really handy after a hero is assigned any amount of damage exhaust Dori to place that damage on Dori instead so if you get a nasty shadow effect or you end up taking more damage than anticipated and it's going to kill one of your heroes well you have Dorian on the dip on the table you exhaust him and then you can put that damage on him instead and hopefully keep your heroes alive now I have included two copies of minor of the iron hills of course many encounters in this game have those really annoying attachments which can come in and really hinder your heroes and can sometimes render them useless so minor the iron hills is perfect as when he enters play you get to get rid of one of those condition attachments now if you're playing a quest and you're losing multiple times and there aren't any condition attachments in that encounter deck then he might be a prime candidate to sub out for another card that might be more useful for that scenario now our last Ally is the northern tracker two copies of northern tracker he's expensive to get out but man can he make a difference in quests were there's lots of locations so every time he commits to the quest he placed one progress token on each location in the staging area so this combos well with many other cards which involved placing direct progress on locations works well with as falak rider of the mark so he can be especially handy for any quest where there is a lot of locations all right moving on to our event cards I've included three copies of day Ron's runes nice to get some card draw going so you get to draw two cards and then you can discard one from your hand so any unique allies you might have whether it's door or Arwen you can cycle those out and hopefully get something more useful now I do have two copies of a test of well obviously cancel when revealed is one of the staples of any deck you're probably gonna have include when you're playing spirits it's worth noting that I only have one copy of the corset so if if you have more than one copy you're probably gonna want to run three copies of this unfortunately I only have one I'm certainly considering getting two so I only have two copies of tests of well but I would probably recommend that you run three copies if you have access to more than two copies of that card now two copies of a secret path choose the location in the staging area until the end of phase that location does not contribute to its threat so again this deck is really good at questing at reducing the threat of the staging area and managing locations so this card is really going to help out with that two copies of the gulab jamuns greeting reduced one players threat by six or reduce each player's threat by two so this can be a nice way to reduce your partner's threat if you need to if they're starting to get dangerously high as that mono tactics deck really doesn't have any threat reduction in it but again this is a great way if you want to keep gandalf around perhaps you've already used aragorn's ability so this is just a way to keep gandalf out and keep your threat low all right two copies of a hasty stroke cancel a shadow effect just triggered during combat really important card as this game has gone on I find the shadow effects just get more brutal so again if you have more than one copy of the core set you may want to definitely consider running three copies of hasty stroke a nice card very cheap and canceling shadow effects can be a lifesaver now I have one copy of dwarven tomb return one spirit card from your discard pile to your hand again I only have one copy of this but this is I find most often used to get either hasty stroke or tests of well back into by hand so I can use it again to help compensate for the fact that I only actually have two copies of each of those cards all right and our final event card three copies of Elrond's council if you control a unique nolde or character and of course we have Glorfindel give another character plus one willpower to the end of the phase and lower your threat by three so this plays in perfectly to what this deck is trying to do give you more willpower and more ability to quest and keeping your threat low all right finally let's take a look at our attachments I have three copies of ancient mathema ghin giving us some card draw attached to a location and after attached location is explored the first player draws three cards the nice thing about this card is you can use it for yourself or your partner if you coordinate it properly both decks do have card draw built into it but maybe you haven't pulled those cards maybe you're getting low and so this is a good option now I've included three copies of Ranger spikes does it fit perfectly into theme of this deck maybe not but I do love this card and it does come in handy and actually can complement the other decks ability to attack things in the staging area of hands upon the bow for example so this of course you play it and when enemy kids revealed from the staging area or started from the encounter deck it sticks to it so players do not have to make attachment sorry engagement checks with the test enemy and the attached enemy gets – – will power so it's gonna make enemies stick in the in the staging area they will lower the threat by – which is nice and does do what you want to do and it's perfect because if it's an enemy you want to get rid of perhaps we play hens upon the bow kill it with Legolas get some extra progress and you should be in good shape now I'm sure when you all saw Glorfindel as one of the heroes it's an absolute no-brainer to include three copies of a light of belem are an absolute must play if you're playing Glorfindel mitat shield is not exhausted to commit to a quest so when you consider that Glorfindel is committing three will power and is ready for combat and when you consider that gandalf if he's on the table is also committing four Bell power and not and will be around for combat that seven will power from two people who don't have to exhaust commits to the quest and you should be in really good shape if it comes around to the combat round now one thing to consider is there's a lot of attachments in that direct damage deck more so than need to be placed on Legolas so if you have an extra Rivendell blade if you have an extra bow or weapon that's hanging around Glorfindel is probably a good choice to slap a Rivendell blade on for example it's gonna make a more effective in combat and if you have light of Valor on and he's gonna be around the combat round just making your ability to get rid of enemies even more effective so I have one copy of unexpected courage attached to a hero exhaust unexpected courage – ready attached hero an absolutely amazing card again if you have more corsets probably want to include multiple copies of this in terms of who to put this on I think it really depends on the context of the game what's going on that moment if it's a combat heavy scenario then you may want to play this on your partner Legolas perhaps being a good candidate or bergen if you want lots of Defense but you may want to put this on your own heroes as well potentially Aragorn I have two copies of burning brand again a very common card if you're playing lore I would say Aragorn would be a prime candidate for this if you combo it with Arwen then with three defense five hit points and canceling shadow effects you're going to have a very solid defender in Aragorn and finally but certainly very important two copies of a spell off again depending on the scenario you have lots of locations you probably want to consider playing a third copy of a spell off but I can attach to an old or hero so you can throw this on Glorfindel and if it's thrown on Glorfindel you can exhaust a place to progress on any location so there you have my support deck sorry I know I ran through it very quickly but I'm trying to keep my videos relatively short and don't want them to drag on for too long so hopefully this is something that you can potentially use in the future again if you go back and watch my other my other video on the direct damage deck I play those two together but this can be played with any tactics deck or combat deck so thank you very much for watching please if you have any suggestions or other cards that you'd like to play you can put that into the comments and have a great week and I should hopefully get some more
